Overview for Chatpal Valley Kashmir Package

Chatpal sits in the Shangus area of the Anantnag district at the end of a road that narrows considerably after Chitergul and arrives at a valley that is closed on all sides by mountain walls. The Bringhi River runs through the floor of it and the villages along the banks carry the apple and walnut orchard economy that most of the Anantnag district runs on — except that Chatpal has none of the tourist infrastructure that the Anantnag district’s more visited spots have accumulated over the years. The Gujjar pastoral community moves through the upper pastures above the valley in summer and the interaction between the settled orchard farmers in the lower villages and the seasonal Gujjar camps on the slopes above gives the place a layered agricultural character that is worth a full day on the ground to understand. Bon Voyagers handles the pickup from Srinagar Airport and covers three nights with a private Innova, Xylo or Scorpio class vehicle throughout. Day 2 drives south through Anantnag and Achabal into the Shangus belt and up to Chatpal for the overnight at the valley tourist cottage. Day 3 gives the full Chatpal day — the Bringhi River, the village lanes, the upper orchard walks and the Gujjar summer camps on the slopes above the settled zone. The return on Day 3 afternoon routes through Kokernag for a stop at the spring gardens before the drive to Srinagar for the final overnight. Day 4 closes at Srinagar Airport.
